Reporter: the current US-Iran contradiction escalates. The US said it would strike 52 Iranian targets if Iran attacked any American citizen or asset. Iran says about 35 U. S. targets in the region are within Iraq's reach. How does China view the current state of affairs?
Geng Shuang: China is highly concerned about the current situation in the Middle East. The further deterioration of the situation in the Gulf of the Middle East is something no one wants to see. Ensuring peace and stability in the region is vital to the world.
Power politics are unpopular and unsustainable. The U. S. military risk-taking has violated the basic norms of international relations and increased regional tension and instability. China has always opposed the use of force in international relations. There is no way out for military means.
China advocates that all parties should earnestly abide by the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and the basic norms of international relations, respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of all countries and safeguard peace and stability in the Middle East and the Gulf region. We urged the US side not to abuse force, and called on all parties concerned to exercise restraint, avoid escalation of the situation in turn, and return to the track of dialogue and consultation as soon as possible to push for a cooling of the tension.
